Relying On Your Own Source

PHILIPPIANS 4 : 19 NKJV:

(19) “And my God shall supply all your need according to His
riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

It is truly amazing to watch people and often observe just how much we all take for granted, with little or no real appreciation, the special and most wonderful things and abilities that God has freely gifted to us. Eyesight is indeed one of the most valuable of these gifts that so many just accept without thought and use without gratefulness. If one would merely blindfold themselves for an entire day and live their life as they usually do, immediate thankfulness would pour out of them for the fact that they can see well and therefore exist with much greater ease than does a person who is blind. There is a “Source” for all of the God-given gifts that we as individuals use daily without which life would be so much more difficult. You should always be extremely grateful and thankful for all of those things that God has provided to us.

Whenever you use any of your own gifts, equipment, talents, utensils, and/or abilities, you are using them in total faith believing that whatever they may be, they will work as preplanned and perform tasks for which they were designed. You believe in that which you cannot see. You trust in things about which you do not really understand. You use such things based upon your own trust and belief,…even when you cannot see them. The truth is that everything which happens in the physical temporal realm, first occurred and was planned to happen in the unseen permanent spiritual realm.

A story please…….

She sat at the breakfast table this morning. I don’t know her name. She was obviously blind, but she relied in trust on her companion who was sitting at the table with her. The friend read the menu to her. Gracefully, politely, with an elegant charm, her fingers searched for and found the utensils and the napkin. Without assistance, except from the waitress, she quickly placed her order. She ate her intricate breakfast without an accident. I personally felt proud of her for a great accomplishment!

Faith is trusting the “sources” that we will never see.

Without a second thought, we take the doctor’s scribbled prescription to be filled by the pharmacist. Then we take it home and meticulously follow the typed directions, consume the drugs, totally trusting and relying on the doctor and the druggist–including those who produced the ingredients before they were mixed and bottled for our consumption. We trust and believe that everyone involved performed precisely as required in order to produce the final unseen finished product. No questions asked, no exception taken or argument involved….just simple personal trust.

Oh but real faith goes way beyond all of our personal and learned understanding. We listen to a Born-Again Christian Believer give their personal testimony. If there is no reason to doubt a sincere confession of faith, we will believe the witness.

God’s Holy Word tells us that Faith is the substance of things hoped for–the belief in things yet unseen. We know, because God says it is so, that the Bible and all that is written in it is true, so we trust and believe in what God says.

Over five hundred Christians saw the resurrected Christ at one time! Several others testified to seeing our Lord following His crucifixion and burial. We believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ because we are totally relying on the “sources” (eye-witnesses) and their account of the events that actually occurred.

Can we believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of the Living God even though it has been copied and recopied throughout the many centuries since it was originally documented? Yes, of course you can! Its marvelous miracle-power of generating and sustaining life-transforming faith is obvious. There is power in the Holy Book called the Bible. Can we believe that God is morally obligated to reveal Himself to us? Yes, God owes it to us. He has “put it in writing”! If not the Bible–then what?

And where does faith itself come from? Beyond the Holy Scriptures does it not come from our positive observation of life all around us? Can we not sense that there is a Source greater and beyond ourselves?

Watch a sunrise or a sunset, watch the colors and weather change with constant regularity as each new season of the year comes into being. Watch the birth of a child as God brings forth new life on earth. Look long and with great pondering at the Christ crucified on Calvary’s Cross. Oh yes, there is a bigger and greater Hand at work than is our own. It is just fine and correct to trust, believe, and rely on Creator God. Whenever you do so, you are walking in total faith.
