There Is No Substitute For Hard Work

The Fourth of Ten Divine Commandments (these are not suggestions).

(8) “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

(9)  Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

(10) but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.
In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your
daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant,
nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.

(11) For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the
sea and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.
Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed
it.”

Exodus 20 : 8–11 NKJV

People truly do amaze me today. There are so very many of them that simply do not want to work. Laziness and nonperformance have overtaken our society as a whole. If you don’t believe what I have said and what I mean, then just look around you wherever you go. I challenge you to ask an anonymous person somewhere near you for a little help,…ask for volunteers to do some extra work in your business, your church, or even at your children’s school,…or just ask some people you think are your friends or associates to lend a helping hand to whatever it is that you are doing and see how fast (or slow) they come running to your aid…even some family members. Please understand that I am not saying that all people are useless or unwilling to assist another person who is asking for help,…not at all. What I am saying is that the vast majority of people today are lazy and would rather play or do nothing than they would work.

Now if I am honest about myself I must admit that I used to think the same incorrect way (and suffer the same painful way) and basically miss out on all the great things that God originally had in store for me because of my ignorance about Him and His ways and about how important He designed work to be,…for the human being. I will tell you the truth of life. There is just no way any one human being can live on this earth and reach their full potential of achieving their personal success without knowing God and developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the one and only living Son of the living God!

Now if that statement is too bold for you,…just calm down and relax. If it is truth that you are seeking, it just been given to you. I say this because work has been Divinely created and made for the exclusive use by man. God designed man at the Creation of the Universe. He designed man to work and earn his sustenance by the sweat of his own brow. Work is good for mankind. It creates a sort of personal fulfillment for the one doing the work. Performing a good work ethic gives man a sense of fulfilled blessing and reward. In order to feel good about yourself, you need to work and perform tasks that will in turn provide food, protection, and enjoyment for yourself and your loved ones. Remember, God made man and He made work for man to perform so as to give him a source of existence and satisfaction from knowing that performance precedes blessing and reward within His kingdom.

Let’s take a good and honest look at our society and culture today in America, and even around the world. Many children are taught today by the authority figures in their lives, by their parents and even by their grandparents that the “magic words” within our society are “Please” and “Thank You.” As good as these “words” are, they really fall far short of being the most important words and concepts that a child should learn.

Sir William Osler, 1st Baronet, (July 12, 1849–December 29, 1919) was a Canadian physician and one of the four founding professors of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Osler created the first residency program for specialty training of physicians, and was the first to bring medical students out of the lecture hall for bedside clinical training. He has frequently been described as the “Father of Modern Medicine.” Dr. Osler once offered his most qualified opinion regarding the most important things that a child should be taught during their upbringing. Dr. Osler stated:

“Though a little one,…the master word…looms large in meaning. It is the ‘Open Sesame’ to every portal, the great equalizer in the world, the true ‘Philosopher’s Stone’ which transmutes all the base metal of humanity into gold. The stupid man among you will make bright, the bright man, brilliant, and the brilliant student steady.

With the magic word in your heart, all things are possible, and without it all study is vanity and vexation. The miracles of life are with it; the blind see by touch, the deaf hear with eyes, the mute speak with fingers.

To the young it brings hope, to the middle-aged confidence, to the aged repose. The true balm for hurt minds, in its presence the heart of the sorrowful is lightened and consoled. Not only has it been the touchstone of progress, but it is the measure of success in everyday life….the master word is WORK.”

I exhort you to learn how to work well, work completely, and then work and keep working until the assigned job is done. Today, choose to work gratefully, not grudgingly.”

The less you do work, the faster you will fall into failure!

Work is a necessity for maintaining anything of lasting value.

“Do you see a man who excels in his work?
He will stand before kings;
He will not stand before unknown men.”
