Henry David Thoreau

Thoreau-Q“As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep
physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.”

-Henry David Thoreau, Author and Philosopher

Walter Hoyt Carr

Walter-QDave, you are a fine young man with a very bright future. Your confidence and personality will carry you a very long way towards reaching your dreams and goals. Just remember, in the days ahead of you there will good times and some bad ones too. Things will go both for you and then back against you. Whatever the case may be just handle it as best you are able and continue to move forward in the direction of your goals.

Never pass up an opportunity to learn something new. Listen carefully and with great respect to those people who know or who have done more than yourself.

Honesty and integrity are absolute must-have character traits. ‘If you always tell the truth, then you never have to remember what you said.’

Honor and respect your parents. They took good care of you while you were growing up. You do the same for them as they age and slow their pace down. Provide for their needs as they arise. Remember without them, you wouldn’t be around.

Respect all people. Learn how to relax those folks around you. Be a good listener. You cannot listen very much if you are always talking. ‘If you always do all of the talking, then the other guy comes away from the conversation knowing everything that he knows plus what you know. Who benefitted most from the conversation?’

Know who you are and where you are going in your life. Set your targets and don’t allow anyone or anything to derail you from reaching them. Stay on task until the work before you is totally completed.”

ed-Q“Dave, It has been a really great year for Borah High School and this Coach. You have played a big part in our success. I want to thank you for the help you gave me these past three years. You have been the BEST of all of the Borah sprinters. I have been really proud of you this year. Always stay the same in your character and principles...but always keep getting  better in your life...and you will always be on top #1.”

Al-Q“David, you are a man. Become a leader in all that you do, and conduct yourself at all times as one. Work hard in everything that you do. Never quit working at the job at hand until it is properly and successfully completed. Don’t watch the clock,...just keep working and finish the job.
Read good books and learn well the correct and proper usage of the English Language. If you plan to be successful, Buckshot, you will have to be able to work with other people and therefore you must be able to communicate properly with them, verbally as well as in writing. Learn and use proper punctuation and diction so that when you communicate with others, they will be able to clearly understand your instructions and will want to listen to what you have to say. Then always remember....to keep more under your counter than you ever put out on top of it for display. Always have a reserve,....one day you may need it.
Never forget, you are a Severn, act like it, at all times!”
