Nobody likes or respects a know it all. Regardless of your personal level of success, you should always be willing to look at the other side of the coin, the other person’s perspective,…the other person’s point of view. If you do, you will repair a major section of lost roadway that exists between you and the other people with whom you are working….whether you know about it or not. Team efforts are magnified when the team members are of one mind set and one accord. And you simply cannot get to one mind set if you and other team members are at cross purposes with you as the leader.

Lots of great efforts in life have been wasted and to no avail because no one would see the other side of the issue. Leaders are purposed people. They most usually are strong willed and at times can be very demanding. It has been my experience that such type leaders expect and demand much more of themselves than they ever do of the other people who follow them. You see friends, what most followers never get is that everyone’s perspective is different. What you may see as critically important, I may see as totally unimportant. What you may see as a great weakness in some other man or woman, I may see as an area of strength. The only proven method of getting opposite mind sets to agree and move in the same productive direction is for them to settle differences and move forward together. That situation will never work unless and until the involved people are willing to see the other side’s point of view, make corrections as they are needed, and then implement those changes and incorporate them into new adjusted methods of operations. Your heart will be quieted and at peace with your fellow men,…if the changes you make are correct. You will be mentally and sometimes physically tortured and tormented if they are incorrect. May I say to you, follow the nudging of the Holy Spirit. Be obedient. Listen to God and then do what you believe He is telling you to do.

In order to win at the game of life, you must first know the game and its rules of engagement. Then you must completely prepare yourself to be able to properly compete, and finally you must develop yourself mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually to the point of being totally competent.

One of the very best ways to learn what and how things need to be done to achieve great success in a given business venture is to seek out and carefully study the operations of the most successful businesses that are operating within the business arenas in which you are attempting to develop your own high levels of success. One of the most proven ways to learn is from and by observation.

Most of the successful organizations in existence are always trying to find out is what it is that their customers really want and need. But what they most usually all discover is that it is the servicing of those established customers that is what the real problem happens to be.

If you do not know what the real problem is, you will never be able to solve it. Just because you think you know what the real problem is,…doesn’t necessarily mean that what you think is what actually is the real problem.

Permit me to share with you a true story about a major problem that developed and was solved in a large hotel chain in a major city within America. Although this story relates specifically to telephones, the scenario applies to almost every other cause of people problems. If you have a problem that needs resolution, solve the people problems relating to it first and the actual problems soon resolve themselves.

I have seen these same type people problems rise and fall a thousand times in the past. Successful resolution totally depends on the leader’s method of evaluating the problem before solving it. Flexibility on the part of the leader is the key.

A story please……….

An alarming percentage of one hotel chain’s customers were demanding refunds of the telephone charges on their room bills. They claimed they hadn’t understood that they would be charged for the different types of calls they made from their rooms. The hotel managers were completely puzzled and indignant because in each hotel room the drawer of the table on which the telephone rested contained a small notebook listing all charges. Surely that was enough explanation for all guests, thought the hotel administrators.

The customers, on the other hand, (the sources of revenue) saw things differently. For them the telephone charges were not displayed well in the rooms, not explained well, and not easy to understand as depicted on their room bills. The real question being raised by the leadership of the hotel was,…were the two groups looking at the same phone system?

Much to their own credit, the hotel’s leaders switched perspectives.
They took the explanation of phone charges out of the drawer, reduced it to a single card, and placed the card directly on the telephone. To make a telephone call, the guest had to move the card, making it almost impossible to miss the instructions.

This change is obviously a simple one as far as materials go, but it’s a significant change in leadership thinking. The old way of thinking was based only on the hotel’s own knowledge of telephone charges. Since they knew what the calls actually cost, not being able to readily see them in print made no difference. For the customers–the experience had to be one of leaning, not knowing. And if the lesson was hidden, then they couldn’t learn. And didn’t.

Whenever customers and employees (or any type of follower) seem to be having problems picking up something about your particular products, services, or procedures that seem obvious to you,…ask yourself, “Is it really that obvious?” Sometimes the answer has to be right there in plain sight.

Stop for a moment and look back over the past year at the biggest problems you have encountered in your personal or business operations.
