\"\"<\/a>The great and famous radio broadcaster, Mr. Paul Harvey, penned a kind and wise short letter of his personal advice to all of his radio listeners many years ago.\u00a0 <\/span>I do not know the specific reasons why he wrote the letter, but I suspect it was a \u201cTime Capsule\u201d type of thing that was to be a notice to subsequent generations.\u00a0 <\/span>This wonderful Christian man was indeed a very special and good person.\u00a0 <\/span>He always had a positive and encouraging demeanor and always gave good uplifting and complete news casts.\u00a0 <\/span>His cheery voice gave every listener a taste of goodness, love, concern, and righteousness.<\/span><\/p>\n

Come with me now as we stroll down memory lane and listen to the sage words of a very great man,….Paul Harvey:<\/span><\/p>\n

These Things I wish For You<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse.<\/span><\/p>\n

For my Grandchildren, I\u2019d know better.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019d really like for them to know about hand-me-down clothes and home-made ice cream and left-over meatloaf.\u00a0 <\/span>I really would.<\/span><\/p>\n

My cherished grandson, I hope you learn humility by being humiliated and that you learn honesty by being cheated.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you learn to make your bed and mow the lawn and wash the car–and I hope that nobody gives you a brand new car when you are 16.<\/span><\/p>\n

And I hope you have a job by then.<\/span><\/p>\n

It will be good if at least one time you can see a baby calf born and see your old dog put to sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother. And it is all right to draw a line down the middle of the room–when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he\u2019s scared–I hope you will let him.<\/span><\/p>\n

And when you want to see a Disney movie and your kid brother wants to tag along I hope you take him.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you have to walk uphill with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.<\/span><\/p>\n

And rainy days when you have to hitch a ride I hope your driver doesn\u2019t have to drop you off two blocks away so you won\u2019t be seen riding with somebody as uncool as your mom.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you want a slingshot I hope your father teaches you how to make one instead of buy one.\u00a0 <\/span>I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read good books, and when you learn to use those new-fangled computers, you also learn how to add and subtract in your head.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you get razzed by friends when you have your first crush on a girl, and that when you talk back to your mother I hope you learn what Ivory soap tastes like.<\/span><\/p>\n

May you skin your knee when climbing a mountain, burn your hand on the stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you get sick when some stupid old person blows cigar smoke in your face.\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u2019t care if you try beer once, but I hope you won\u2019t like it.\u00a0 <\/span>And if a friend offers you a joint or any dope I hope you are smart enough to realize he is not your friend.<\/span><\/p>\n

I sure hope that you make time to sit on a porch with your grandpa or go fishing with your uncle.\u00a0 <\/span>May you feel sorrow at a funeral and the joy of holidays.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a base-ball through a neighbor\u2019s window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time, when you give her a plaster of Paris mold of your hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

These things I wish for you–tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness.<\/span><\/p>\n
