font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/The Lonely Hitchhiker On Your Road To Success.mp3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-474\" src=\"http:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SEV-CampfireAudio.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"108\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SEV-CampfireAudio.jpg 375w, https:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SEV-CampfireAudio-300x86.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a>Many people spend their entire lives looking for, searching for, and sifting through the experiences of life for some mysterious thing that they think they want,&#8230;what they spend lots of time searching for but never really find what it is that they are seeking.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I will tell you that if you really don\u2019t know what you are looking for, then you will waste your life and God\u2019s preplanned purpose for your life because you will walk right by what it is that you are searching for and not even know you were close to achieving it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you cannot identify the target of your life\u2019s search then you will never know if you hit it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Please let me explain&#8230;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Everybody says they want it, but most people run right by it without even noticing it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This mysterious thing is called Contentment.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is that lonely hitch-hiker that you can barely see way back behind you somewhere within the clouded rearview mirror because you were traveling so fast on your \u201cbig broad road-to-nowhere\u201d that you sped right past it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b> This station of life called contentment is a wonderful thing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is a state of being content, peaceful, relaxed, assured, and happy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is what most people highly desire and rarely discover.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>They search and continue to search for this illusive state of being while living their own lives having no time available to slow themselves down to a more casual sustainable pace and truly investigate the various options, alternative routes, and different view points all of which are well marked on the side of the road on which they are speeding.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWhat was that?\u201d they ask.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWhere does that road go to?\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWhat do you suppose is at the end of this road?\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>All of these many queries remain unanswered since there is never enough time (so we say) to go find out.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019re in a hurry, aren\u2019t we?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And the traffic continues to move on&#8230;.\u201cstep on it,&#8230;please,\u201d&#8230;we might be late&#8230;.for something.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Hundreds of different books have been written on or about the subject of<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>contentment and how to achieve it and they are rapidly selling.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But think about it for a moment,&#8230;.Isn\u2019t it strange that we even need a book to help us experience what ought to come to us naturally?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>No,&#8230;I guess,&#8230;not really.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not after our children, young adults, and seasoned citizens have all been programmed to compete, achieve, increase, and fight, as you work and worry your own way up the so-called \u201cladder of success\u201d which only a chosen few can even accurately define.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not when you have worshipped at\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">the shrine of PROMOTION since infancy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not when you have spent all your life as a galley slave on the sea-going ship of \u201cPublic Opinion.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>To you such folks, contentment is an unknown \u201cX\u201d in life\u2019s equation of how to become successful.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is as strange to you as living in an igloo or raising crocodiles in your backyard. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Just face it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Most of us are afraid that if we open the door of contentment, two belligerent guests will come rushing in&#8211;loss of prestige, and laziness.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Sadly, we really believe that \u201cgetting to the top\u201d is worth any sacrifice.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>To proud Americans, contentment is something to be enjoyed between one\u2019s actual birth and kindergarten,&#8230;between one\u2019s<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>retirement and the rest home,&#8230; or only among \u201cthose who have no ambition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Friends, stop and think.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A young man with keen mechanical skills and little interest in academics is often counseled against being contented to settle for a trade right out of high school.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A teacher who is competent, contented, and fulfilled in the classroom is frowned upon if she turns down an offer to become principal.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The owner of \u201cEl Taco Loco\u201d on the corner has a packed-out restaurant filled with hungry customers every day&#8211;and is happy in his soul, contented in his spirit.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But chances are, selfish ambition won\u2019t let him rest until he opens ten other restaurants and becomes rich&#8211;leaving contentment in the lower drawer of forgotten dreams.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A man who serves as an assistant (or any support personnel in a ministry, company, or the military) frequently wrestles with feelings of discontent until he or she is promoted to the top rung of the scale&#8211;regardless of personal capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Illustrations of this real situation among people are seen everywhere&#8230;all around you.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This applies to nuclear scientists, farmers, auto repair specialists, policemen, plumbers, or seminary students.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It also applies to caretakers, or carpet layers, artists or waiters, truck drivers, and anyone else who is internally driven and wants to constantly improve their individual position in life.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Small wonder that so many people who are seeking to further themselves are seldom happy or content even when they reach their decided goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The great playwright, William Shakespeare, had it right when he said, \u201cStriving to better, oft we mar what\u2019s well.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><b>It is a most curious fact that when people are free to do as they please, they usually wind up imitating each other.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>I, like many others, seriously fear that we Americans are rapidly becoming a nation of discontented, incompetent, marionettes dangling from strings manipulated by the same dictatorial puppeteer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">God\u2019s Word tells us in Proverbs that His ways are different from our ways; that His knowledge and understanding is higher and greater than is man\u2019s.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>God makes no mistakes or contradictions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Obedience to His instructions is the way to accomplish His plan and purpose for your life.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>To do that requires an individual to totally trust God and His Word and follow His guidance to the letter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Listen to the words of Jesus: \u201c&#8230;be content with your wages\u201d ( See Luke 3: 14.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Hear the Apostle Paul: \u201cI am well content with weaknesses&#8230;if we have food and covering&#8230;be content!\u201d (See 2 Corinthians 12 : 10; and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">1 Timothy 6 : 8).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And yet another apostle: &#8230;\u201clet your life be free&#8230;being content with what you have\u201d (See Hebrews 13 : 5).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Now I must caution you before beginning this new way of thinking and living&#8211;it is not going to be easy to adopt and implement.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You will be outnumbered and outvoted.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You will have to fight the urge to conform to conventional thinking and performance.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It has been done before and by a lot of other people,&#8230;.so you can do it too.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even the greatest of all apostles admitted, \u201cI have learned to be content in whatever state I am\u201d (See Philippians 4 : 11).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The whole thing is a learning and growing process, often quite painful.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And it isn\u2019t very enjoyable marching out of step until you are convinced you are listening to the right drummer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">When you become fully convinced,&#8230;two things will happen to you:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Your strings will be cut from that which has kept you bound, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">You\u2019ll be free indeed&#8230;free to live as you choose!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And a humorous thing will permeate you: You will discover that all of those \u201cfunny and different things\u201d that you left a few miles back on your pathway to success will now be sitting in the passenger seat right beside you where they properly belong&#8230;and smiling every mile of the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Just as Christ told the world in the <b>Book of John, Chapter 8, verse 32,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>NKJV:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><b>\u201cAnd you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><b>Be a Real Man And Always Act Like One&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..<\/b> <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many people spend their entire lives looking for, searching for, and sifting through the experiences of life for some mysterious thing that they think they want,&#8230;what they spend lots of time searching for but never really find what it is &hellip;
