{"id":21228,"date":"2021-04-17T00:01:09","date_gmt":"2021-04-17T07:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/?p=21228"},"modified":"2021-04-16T12:42:21","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T19:42:21","slug":"releasing-the-arrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/releasing-the-arrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Releasing The Arrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Releasing The Arrow.mp3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-474\" src=\"http:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SEV-CampfireAudio-300x86.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"86\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SEV-CampfireAudio-300x86.jpg 300w, https:\/\/davesevern.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SEV-CampfireAudio.jpg 375w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Author and teacher Stu Weber shared a story that tells it like it really is.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This story truly will open your eyes and bless your heart and soul:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cAs I write these words, I am looking at three different arrows lying on top of my desk.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They differ from one another because of their function and intended use.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Any good archer could readily see the differences at a glance.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yet in other ways they are remarkably similar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">I\u2019m turning one of them in my hand right now.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Feeling the heft and balance of its shaft.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Looking down its length to the round edges of its blunt head.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a target arrow, and a good one.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I wouldn\u2019t waste my time<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>with anything less.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It has plastic vanes instead of feathers&#8211;the kind of arrow you would want for shooting in rainy western Oregon.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This second one now&#8230;yes, it has a good feel to it too.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A hunting arrow.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Smooth shaft.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Well balanced.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A slightly heavier head, and crafted to a literal razor\u2019s edge.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a \u201cbroadhead.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Plastic-vaned and intended for wet country hunting. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The third one is the kind I carry east of the mountains, over on the dry side of the state <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s basically a twin of the second arrow, but it sports neat black and grey feathers instead of plastic vanes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">They\u2019re different, these arrows of mine.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Each intended for a different impact.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Each designed for a different sort of target.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They\u2019re also very similar; each has been fashioned and crafted, molded and balanced.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They\u2019re all intended for flight.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They\u2019re all intended for a target.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They\u2019re all intended for maximum impact on that target.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">They\u2019re good arrows.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But then again, they\u2019re not much better than the archer who notches them on the bow.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They\u2019re not much better than the fullness of his draw.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They\u2019re not better than the smoothness of his release. No matter how finely crafted those arrows might be, you couldn\u2019t pull a guy off the street and expect him to let loose with a seventy-pound bow and nail a target with one of them.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><b>Accuracy demands a trained, full draw and a disciplined release.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">As I write these words, I\u2019m looking at a picture on my desk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">It\u2019s a picture of my three sons&#8211;Kent, Blake, and Ryan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They\u2019re different, these sons of mine.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Unbelievably different.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But they\u2019re also similar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Each was crafted by the Lord God in the secret place of his mother\u2019s womb.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And each was fashioned, balanced, and readied for flight within the four walls of our home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">My three arrows were all designed to leap from the bow and split the air.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I enjoy hunting, and I intend to use these arrows&#8211;whether on a cedar bale target or on a bull elk stamping on some back-country ridge on a frosty morning.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>These arrows aren\u2019t for show.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They were never intended to stay in the quiver.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The quiver is just a vehicle that carries them until they are ready for release.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><b>You might say those arrows were made to be released.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They were made to play.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They were made to pierce a target.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><b>So it is with my three sons.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They were never intended to stay bunched in the four walls of their childhood home.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, the home is a vehicle to fashion and straighten and true and balance those boys.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But when the moment comes&#8230;young men&#8211;and young women&#8211;were made to experience flight.<\/b>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">When it comes time to release your own children out into the world, rest and be comforted with the knowledge and belief that God\u2019s intended purpose for your offspring can only be fully realized after they have left the rearing grounds of your own home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
