\"\"<\/a>FAMILY<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Poetry is not as popular today as it used to be in times gone bye. However, it is still just as an important and effective means of communication as it always has been. When I was growing up in Boise, Idaho and attending elementary schools there, poetry was really important. Students were required to memorize poems and lines of poetry as an active requirement in all their English and Literature classes. Most of that sort of thing has since been forgotten and no longer required. Society and educated intelligence are the big losers from such a reduction of requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n

Life is all too short here on earth. Although there are occasions when times seem to drag on painfully slow, for the most part it seems to fly by and leave all of us growing too old, too fast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Author Bob Benson realized what I am attempting to tell you many years ago, and authored a poem that strikes at the heart of the matter of passing time. I would encourage you to read and reread this special communication and always take the time to slow down your pace of living and start more fully enjoying the Precious Present.<\/span><\/p>\n

The time clock of life never slows down, stops, or backs up. Time cannot be saved, invested, or retrieved once it has passed. Carefully read and heed the poetic words and message from Mr. Bob Benson:<\/span><\/p>\n

Laughter in the Walls<\/span><\/p>\n

I pass a lot of houses<\/span>
\n\u00a0 on my way home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some pretty,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 some expensive,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 some inviting.<\/span><\/p>\n

But my heart always skips a beat<\/span>
\n\u00a0 when I turn down the road<\/span>
\n\u00a0 and see my house<\/span>
\n\u00a0 nestled against the hill.<\/span><\/p>\n

I guess I\u2019m especially proud<\/span>
\n\u00a0 of the house<\/span>
\n\u00a0 and the way it looks<\/span>
\n\u00a0 because I drew the plans myself.<\/span><\/p>\n

It started out large enough for us–<\/span>
\n\u00a0 I even had a study,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 two teenage boys<\/span>
\n\u00a0 now reside in there.<\/span><\/p>\n

And it had a guest room,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 my girl and nine dolls<\/span>
\n\u00a0 are permanent guests.<\/span><\/p>\n

It had a small room<\/span>
\n\u00a0 Peg had hoped<\/span>
\n\u00a0 would be her sewing room,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 the two boys swinging<\/span>
\n\u00a0 on the Dutch door<\/span>
\n\u00a0 have claimed this room as their own.<\/span><\/p>\n

So it really doesn\u2019t look right now<\/span>
\n\u00a0 as if I\u2019m much of an architect.<\/span>
\n\u00a0 But it will get larger again.<\/span><\/p>\n

One by one they will go away–<\/span>
\n\u00a0 to work, to college, to service,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 to their own houses.<\/span><\/p>\n

And then there will be room–<\/span>
\n\u00a0 a guest room, a study,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 and a sewing room–<\/span>
\n\u00a0 Just for the two of us.<\/span><\/p>\n

But it won\u2019t be empty.<\/span>
\n\u00a0 Every corner, every room,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 every nick in the coffee table<\/span>
\n\u00a0 will be crowded<\/span>
\n\u00a0 with memories.<\/span><\/p>\n

Memories of picnics,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 parties, Christmases,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 bedside vigils, summers,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 fires, winters, going barefoot,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 leaving for vacation, cats,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 conversations, black eyes,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 graduations, first dates,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 ball games, arguments,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 washing dishes, bicycles,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 dogs, boat rides,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 getting home from vacation,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 meals, rabbits,<\/span>
\n\u00a0 and a thousand other things<\/span>
\n\u00a0 that fill the lives<\/span>
\n\u00a0 of those who would raise five.<\/span><\/p>\n

And Peg and I<\/span>
\n\u00a0 will sit quietly by the fire<\/span>
\n\u00a0 and listen to the<\/span>
\n\u00a0 laughter in the walls.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Walk Plainer, Daddy<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Walk a little plainer, Daddy! I know that once you walked this way many years ago, and what you did along the way I\u2019d really like to know; for sometimes when I am tempted, I don\u2019t know what to do. So walk a little plainer, Daddy, for I must follow you.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
