Just Exactly Why is a Good Marriage Really Important?

Real true history is one of the best and greatest teachers.

Most people today do not know or study real true history.

History has always been one of those areas of knowledge that carries with it great and beneficial wisdom and instruction,…if people would only study it and learn the lessons that it teaches. Sadly history records that people, for the most part, do not do that; and as a consequence they fail to learn the lessons of history and therefore they are so bound to repeat the same mistakes that initially generated the lessons. In short, history teaches that people do not learn anything from history! That is indeed a very sad situation.

That last statement of fact proves the Truth of Life that ignorance most usually perpetuates itself!

Being ignorant is indeed a sad and sorrowful thing or condition. Staying ignorant is an inexcusable condition which should not be accepted or tolerated.

As anyone who really knows me will attest, I am a student of history, and for good reason. History was “pounded” into me by my dad as I grew up in Boise, Idaho. Dad was indeed a brilliant man, way ahead of his time and peers. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a loyal committed American patriot. He and my mother were always teaching me through their thoughts, words, actions, and deeds. I was always ready to learn more and understand what I was learning. It seemed like everywhere we travelled, as I was growing up, everything that we encountered became a new exciting adventure and opportunity to learn more. I am forever grateful that I had the parents that God allowed me to have.

It is from that exact platform that I prepared this article of discussion. Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd, Jr., USN (October 25, 1888—March 11, 1957) was an American naval officer who specialized in feats of exploration. He was the recipient of the Medal of Honor, the highest honor for valor given by the United States, and was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics. Aircraft flights in which he served as a navigator and expedition leader crossed the Atlantic Ocean, a segment of the Arctic Ocean, and a segment of the Antarctic Plateau. Admiral Byrd claimed that his expeditions had been the first to reach both the North Pole and the South Pole by air. However, his claim to have reached the North Pole is disputed.

This great man of high achievement and position of leadership of other men certainly had his fair share of excitement, exhilaration, and consequence. He battled the elements for his own survival and fought many personal mental and physical battles as he lived out his life here on earth. Untold hours of his life were spent away from his wife and family as he trudged, flew, or floated the distant miles from his home, in search of theretofore unknown geographies. Listen carefully to this great man’s last words as they were written while Admiral Richard E. Byrd lay on his own deathbed:

“At the end, only two things really matter to a man, regardless of who he is, and they are the affection and understanding of his family. Anything and everything else he creates are insubstantial. They are ships given over to the mercy of the winds and the tides of prejudice, but the family is an everlasting anchorage, a quiet harbor where a man’s ships can be left to swing to the moorage of pride and loyalty.”

A most fitting epitaph for a loyal and faithful man who spent most of his life away from the peace and security of his own family.

Family is a God given institution for the happiness, peace, and productivity of a real man while he lives here on earth. Family is the mainstay of a society of human beings regardless of race, color, or creed. Family is the anchor to which good men and women cling as they grow and develop on their personal journey through life. Family, is the natural by-product of a good and lasting marriage.

Family is indeed is a very good thing of which to be a part.

British anthropologist John D. Unwin conducted a grand, in-depth study of eighty civilizations that have come and gone over a period of some four thousand years. Dr. Unwin discovered that a common thread ran through and connected all of these societal orders that are now defunct and no longer exist. We can all learn a great lesson from what has been learned from this study concerning these disappeared civilizations. All that it takes to create and flounder in your own dissolving civilization is to do precisely what those civilizations who have already disappeared from existence did. Self destruction is a result of allowing and then duplicating the self same thoughts, beliefs, and activities to exist and consume the population of any nation.

The wrong thing or activity done over and over until perfection is reached,…remains to be the wrong thing and will produce the same known wrong results. Only bad can come from wrong decisions and actions.

In each instance within the lost civilization, they all started out with a conservative mind-set involving strong moral values with a heavy emphasis on family. Over a considerably long period of time, the conservative mind-set slowly became more and more liberal, moral values declined, and the family suffered. In each instance, the family deteriorated, the civilization itself started to come apart; and in all eighty cases, the fall of the nation was related to the fall of the family! In most cases that civilization actually fell within one generation of the fall of the family unit!

Dr. Unwin’s research revealed that when a man falls in love with a woman, dedicating himself to care for her and protect her and support her, he suddenly becomes the mainstay of social order. Instead of using his energies to pursue his own lusts and desires, he sweats to build a home and save for the future and seek the best job or business opportunity available. His selfish impulses are inhibited; his sexual passions are channeled. He discovers a sense of pride—yes, masculine pride—because he is needed by his wife and children. Everyone within a good society of human beings benefits from a good marital relationship.

Whenever a society is composed of millions of individual families established on a morally sound plan of conduct, then the nation is strong and stable; it is highly productive and prosperous. Strength and solidarity are the great contributions sound marriages make to their own civilizations.

But in the absence of family commitment, complete ruination is inevitable. When husbands and wives have no good reason to harness their energies in support of the home, then drug abuse, alcoholism, tobacco abuse, sexual promiscuity, job instability, and overly aggressive personal behavior can be expected to run unchecked throughout the entire culture and nation. And the lack or failure of focused energies is the beginning of the end.

Hold on now, there is indeed a positive side to this article of truth.

Civilizations prosper under moral and sexual restraint. Sexual energy is the most creative of all human energies, and because of our own human nature, when we are loyal and faithful to our own life-mate, we will always have a surplus of this energy. Surplus energy provides an abundance for becoming more productive and more creative and, in general, producing better works of literature, and science as well as material goods and services. Surplus energy definitely produces greater and greater benefits to society as a whole. Not only does the family unit benefit from the creative use of this sexual energy, but the energy created is used to raise the standard of living and to advance the quality of life for everyone! That is what is known as a very good deal! The specific use of this surplus energy is done as an unselfish act of love and generosity.

This is not pie-in-the-sky information but rather it is true and has been substantiated throughout all of history. It can be totally relied upon. It is the very basis for the conclusion from the studies that the great author and businessman Napoleon Hill performed and taught the world. Mr. Hill’s thesis was pure and simple. He said, a truly great and honest man will have much more creativity and productivity after his 60th birthday than before it, because as he ages, and his sexual drive diminishes, he learns how to transmute his excess sexual energy into other creative areas of life. History proves this to be the truth. The really great men and women produced far more after they turned sixty years of age than they did before they reached it.

Just remember this absolute Truth of Life: It is always too soon to quit, and it is never too late to start all over again.
