How It All Works In America

There are some very interesting truths of life that exist here in America that are not found in any other country in the world.  We are indeed a very extraordinary group of free people who yearn for the truth and who cling preciously to our great gift of a Free Enterprise System of Economics.  It is only within that economic system that a man or a woman is given the uninhibited right and freedom to make themselves more and more valuable as time goes forward.  It is for this great reason that our country, based on our own exceptionalism, freely provides to all comers the chance to succeed no matter the background, no matter the education level, and no matter the circumstances.  If one is willing to dream big and work long and hard, the unlimited right to succeed is there for the taking if the individual is simply willing to pay full price to make it happen for themselves.

Here is a Truth of Life: Laziness and Poverty are cousins.

God gives us a major secret to becoming successful in His Holy Word, in the Book of Proverbs Chapter 24, verses 30–34  NKJV:

  1.   “I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding;
  1.     And there it was, all overgrown with thorns; Its surface was covered with nettles; Its stone wall was broken down.
  1.     When I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received instruction;
  1.     A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest;
  1.     So shall your poverty come like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.”

Ambition, industriousness, definiteness of purpose, and total commitment are the watchwords of the successful person.  Total commitment to an on-going uninterrupted work ethic consistently and persistently applied with maximum effort are the things that make for a successful endeavor and its successful completion.

While it is true that lazy people raise skinny kids, it is also true that no lazy man ever succeeds.  It is your own choice as to how industrious you plan to be.   Just remember, all decisions and their related actions have consequences.  And whatever you plant is what you will harvest….no exceptions.  God shall not be mocked.

A story may best explain my point as to how things really work here in America.

One day, a grandfather told his grandchildren about his coming to America.  He told of the trains and a ship that took him from his home in Eastern Europe across the continent and the Atlantic ocean to America.  He told of being processed through customs and emigration at Ellis Island in New York and then how, being very hungry, he went to a cafeteria in lower Manhattan to get something to eat.  There at the cafeteria he sat down at an empty table and waited quite some time for someone to come to him and take his order.  Nobody came.  Finally, a woman with a tray full of food sat down opposite him and explained to him how a cafeteria works.

She said, “You start down at that end of the counter”–pointing towards a stack of trays–“and then go along the food line and pick out what you want.  At the other end of the counter, they’ll tell you how much you have to pay.”

The grandfather paused and reflected a moment and then said, “I soon learned that’s how everything works in America.  Life’s a cafeteria here in America.  You can get anything you want–even very great success– if you are willing to pay the price.  But you will never get what you want if you wait for someone else to bring it to you.  YOU HAVE TO GET UP AND GET IT YOURSELF!”

The difference between where you are and where you want to be can often be summed up in just one word: WORK!

There is an old Chinese statement of truth that is well worth remembering for the rest of your life: “Confucius say, man who stands on side of hill with mouth wide open, waits for long time for roast duck to fly in.”

Success demands the people take charge of their life and their own circumstances. Achieving personal success requires a person to stand up and take personal responsibility for initiating the process of accomplishing that which they have set out to accomplish.  Get up and get moving. You become the catalyst required to get the ball rolling.  No other person, place, or thing can ever succeed for you.  Achieving personal success is not a spectator sport.  It is just one of those things that you must do for yourself!  No other person can or ever will do it for you.

So, if you have definitely identified your personal reasons or causes or purpose for expending your own efforts and personal resources to accomplish your personal mission, then I say to you…GET MOVING.  Right now,…..today.  Just as you are right from where you now stand.

Your established and displayed personal example will be precisely what those people who are following you need to observe.  Your example is the best and most effective way to lead other people.

People do what people see.
